Sikh Martial Arts: Asia's First Gatka Cup to be held in Malaysia
NEW DELHI, Aug 4 (Bernama) -– The Asian Gatka Federation (AGF), which manages and promotes Sikh martial arts will organise its first Gatka Cup next February in Malaysia.
The specific dates of the event would be announced after a meeting with the Malaysian Gatka Federation, Press Trust of India reported, quoting AGF president Surinderpal Singh as saying.
According to the report, he said this at the end of a three-day, national Gatka refresher course held at the Punjabi University in Patiala, Punjab.
Addressing Gatka referees, coaches and technical officials, Surinderpal said the World Gatka Federation and Asian Gatka Federation constituted more than three dozen federations at several countries and organised national-level Gatka events in Nepal, United Kingdom, Canada and USA.
The Gatka Cup is aimed at promoting the traditional South Asian form of combat-training, said the report.
